ATA: Driver shortage ‘great’ for qualified workers cashing in on ‘free agency of trucking’

Pay for American truckers rose significantly in 2021 as demand for drivers amid the ongoing driver shortage increased competition for talent. That’s according to the results of a new industry survey commissioned by the American Trucking Associations (ATA). ATA estimated there is a shortage of 80,000 drivers among the 3 million holders of a Commercial Driver’s License.

USPS posts improved FY 2022 Q3 earnings results

Fiscal year (FY) 2022 third quarter earnings for the United States Postal Service (USPS) saw total revenue post a 1.4% annual increase, to $18.741 billion. And it had an adjusted quarterly loss of $459 million compared to an adjusted loss of $41 million, for the same quarter last year, while posting $59.7 billion in net income, compared to a $3.0 billion FY 2021 second quarter loss.

Preliminary July Class 8 truck net orders see declines

FTR reported that preliminary July North American Class 8 net orders—at 10,600—dropped to their lowest level going back to November 2021, adding it marked the lowest July tally since July 2019, while falling 33% compared to June and down 60% annually. July preliminary North American Class 8 net orders came in at 11,400 units, well below the June preliminary number, at 25,700 units, reported ACT.

UPS announces plans to acquire Bomi Group, to further expand healthcare logistics presence

Once the transaction becomes official, UPS said it will bring more than 350 temperature-controlled vehicles and 4 million square-feet to the UPS Healthcare global footprint, while also providing customers with faster shipping times, and increased production flexibility, as well as offerings to help attract new business.
